It’s a sunny yellow banana day~!

Why waste our beautiful sunlight instead of converting it into useful energy to reduce your household electricity bills? With residential solar installations jumping by more than 30 times over the past decade, let’s look at the reasons why Singaporeans are investing in solar energy and what are some of the main considerations before you decide to invest in going green.

Benefits of Tapping on Solar Energy

With solar photovoltaics (PV), a typical landed property in which home owners uses on average 2,000 kWh per month, can save on average over 20% of their household electricity bill when using a 1,200kwh per month solar PV system. That totals up to about $60,000 savings in energy cost over a period of 25 years!

Factors to Consider for Residential PV Installation

1. Angle of your roof affects ability to generate electricity

  • Certain roofs are preferred due to their ability to capture a larger yield of sunlight, such as flat or gently sloped roofs.
  • Steep roofs require a more tedious process of installation to ensure that panels are safely secured, hence, usually resulting in higher overall costs.

2. Space limitations of roof surface affects the number of PV panels that can be installed

  • A fraction of the costs comes from installation and the cost of mounting racks. Hence, the more panels installed, the lower the unit cost per panel installed (depending on how many mounting racks required too).

3. Type of roof

  • Tiled or metal? Metal roofs cost lower due to a simpler system installation, whereas tiled roofs require tiles to be removed for the installation of mounting frames, before they are placed back in their original position.

4. Preference for battery storage

  • We do not provide battery storage, as expensive batteries tend to drive up the costs of PV system installation significantly. In Singapore, we also have the benefit of easily connecting to the grid – where we can sell off excess electricity produced to reduce our payback period.

5. Type of PV Panel

  • MVM uses REC’s PV panels, a Norwegian company with manufacturing facilities in Singapore.

6. Consider warranty period

  • As REC’s Certified Solar Professional, our panels comes with 25-year factory warranty.

Without any movable parts, there isn’t much maintenance for the PV panels other than yearly inspection and where necessary rinsing it with water to remove any dust build up.

On average, installation costs for most Singapore landed properties ranges between $20,000 and $60,000. Do PM us on FB or write us through our website’s enquiry page for a free quotation today!
